Mirror Mirror Shade

Updated: May 18

In just one minute, let's explore the depths of internalized homophobia that often linger within our community's mirrors. Every week, I'm asked if our micro-episodes are drawn from real-life experiences. While many episodes are inspired by the ebb and flow of everyday life, there are moments when reality hits too close to home. This particular episode is one of those moments—it's not just a reflection of life, but a lived experience.

In February, during a casual outing, I found myself confronted with hostility from some members of our own queer brotherhood at a local bar. Sadly, this wasn't an isolated incident. It's a sobering reminder of the prevalence of internalized homophobia within our community. This episode, titled "Mirror, Mirror, SHADE!" serves as a poignant tribute to that moment—a moment that stirred introspection and dialogue.

Shot in the historic DTLAl, this episode is a raw portrayal of the shadows that lurk within our own circles. It's a reminder for each of us to delve deeper, to confront the biases and prejudices that may reside within.

But it doesn't end there. This episode isn't just a commentary; it's a call to action. It beckons us to embark on a journey of self-discovery and acceptance, to dismantle the barriers of internalized homophobia that hinder our collective progress.

As we immerse ourselves in this narrative, let us remember the power of visibility, vulnerability, and above all, unity. Let us embrace our differences, celebrate our triumphs, and stand in solidarity against the shadows that seek to divide us.

So, as we navigate the intricate tapestry of our identities, let's continue this conversation, together.
